Blood Drive

Join us to help

When it's needed, it's serious. Blood and blood products save lives. It's simple to give, but the effect can be profound. According to Vitalant, every day the US uses roughly:

  • 29,000 units of red blood cells,
  • 5,000 units of platelets, and
  • 6,500 units of plasma.

Blood and blood products must be used shortly after they are collected, so the need is ongoing. According to the Red Cross, only about 3% of eligible people donate each year.

In January of 2022, the Red Cross declared its first-ever blood crisis in the US, due to complications of COVID-19. To this day, blood continues to be in short supply. According to America's Blood Centers, which oversees about 60% of the US blood supply, as of February 8, 2023, more than two thirds of their 59 community blood centers have just three-days of blood or less, with nearly a third having just one day of supply.
