Serving our Mission through: Worship, Youth and Families, Outreach, and Leadership Development
Our History and Our Future
Chandler Presbyterian Church was founded on June 12, 1949, with 34 charter members by the Rev. Claude L. Morton. The congregation first met in a kindergarten building in downtown Chandler and in the Women's Club. Finally, in 1952, the first building was built on property at 97 W. Oakland Street, near Chandler High School. That building was subsequently rebuilt after a fire in 1979.
In 1991, the Rev. Edward Spence was called to lead the congregation in a new direction, the relocation and transformation of the church in a new place. Working closely with the Presbytery of Grand Canyon and the church Session, the church began the process to develop a new vision for the future, which included the move to the present location.
The former church building was sold and new property was purchased on W. Germann Rd for the future project. The congregation conducted services and programs on the North Campus of Chandler High School for a period of time, and in Feb. 2002, the new church building was begun.
The new building was completed in August of 2002, with the dedication taking place in October of that year. New programs, growth of the membership, and a look to the future is underway in the new location.
In the future, we plan to expand the building to include a permanent sanctuary, additional education and office space, along with fellowship space, parking and completion of the grounds. Our mission is to continue to provide quality worship, be involved in mission.
Also, we will be neighbors to a very fine private academy in the near future. We sold a portion of our property to a school with an excellent reputation in the community, and they will be a very fine neighbor to the church.
